Boys Just Want To Have Fun

Premiere Fall 2024

ilDance Artistic Director Israel Aloni is developing their new production Boys Just Want To Have Fun which will premier in 2024.

Boys Just Want To Have Fun addresses the detrimental impact of the ubiquitous image of ‘man’ in western society and the taboo around homoeroticism and homo-sensuality.

The project addresses the common acceptance and even encouragement of expressions of homoeroticism and homo-sensuality nearly solely in contexts of combat (war) and competition (sports) whilst strongly and actively rejecting them in contexts of intimacy and love. 

Boys Just Want To Have Fun is a durational multidisciplinary dance-performance piece (8 hours per day) to be presented in white gallery-exhibition space. 

If for ‘man’ the embodiment of huWOmanhood is conditioned by environments of competition and combat, it is reasonable to suspect that sometimes, perhaps often, perhaps always, ‘man’ is required to incite a competitive and/or combative circumstances to respond to their undeniable desires. In such condition, oppressed desires often become war curation.

Since 2014, Aloni’s work has been addressing gender and sexuality in both direct and indirect ways. After numerous projects in which Aloni addressed these themes through non-binary and female perspectives.

In this project they attempt embodiments of post-humanist-feminist agenda through deconstruction and redefinition of ‘man’. 

Boys Just Want To Have Fun has been hosted for research residencies in Nau Ivanow in Barcelona in Spring 2023 and EIMA Creation Center in Mallorca in Fall 2023. The creation process will take place in Spring-Summer of 2024 and the piece will premier in early Fall 2024.
