ilDance is auditioning for our junior company, ilYoung 2023 season
Emerging contemporary dance artists between the ages of 18-27 who are eligible and permitted to both work and reside in the EU are encouraged to apply.
What is ilYoung?
ilYoung is a professional, project-based, junior contemporary dance company.
Every year, ilDance engages a group of emerging contemporary dance artists to join a full-time creation process of six weeks in a professional environment. During the project, the dancers work with the directors of ilDance and international guest artists. The creation process is hosted in residencies across Sweden where the cast, choreographers and creative team interact and engage with the local community in various public activities. Following the creation period, ilYoung tours with the new production across Sweden. The project is a professional experience and mentorship environment for young artists and therefore, it is not a paid opportunity.
ilYoung is a professional development opportunity where young and emerging artists can gain knowledge and experience from professionals in the field and work alongside other emerging artists. ilDance covers all the relevant costs (including travel, accommodation and the artistic experiences with the ilDance artistic team and guest artists) and the participating artists are not required to pay for any parts of the project. The entire experience is free of charge.
The selected individuals are only responsible for covering their travel costs to and from the creation process. All other travels within the project are covered by ilDance.

Malmö - 8 October 2022
Gothenburg - 9 October 2022
Stockholm - 15 October 2022
Since 2020, the eligibility criteria for the audition has been broadened, the two options are:
Option 1:
Dancers partaking in full-time professional dance education at: Balettakademien Stockholm, Balettakademien Göteborg, Stockholm Konsnärliga Högskola, Härnösand Folkhögskola and Swedish Ballet School as well as previous cast members of ilYoung.
If you are currently partaking in full-time professional dance education in one of the above-mentioned schools or have been in ilYoung previously and are aged between 18-27 (at the time of the audition) you are eligible to attend the audition without an initial selection process, you just need to register.
To register: email your name, age, education (and year) and which audition you will be attending (Malmö/Stockholm/Gothenburg) to audition@ildance.se.

18 September 2022 at 23.59 CET
Option 2:
Dancers aged 18-27, who are not currently partaking in full-time professional dance education in any of the schools mentioned in option 1.
Applicants will go through a first-stage video audition process to be invited to the physical audition.
To apply: Send three short videos:
Video 1:
Max 2 min video where you speak about yourself (background, interests etc), why you would like to join ilYoung 2023 what you are currently busy with and/or interested in within your practice or education.
Video 2:
Max 2 min video of you improvising (in whichever style/way you choose to present yourself).
Video 3:
Max 2 min video of you dancing set material either in a rehearsal space or in a performance context (in whichever style you wish to present yourself).
Videos** should be uploaded to Vimeo or YouTube and the links should be emailed together with your name, age, the city you are based in, which audition you would like to attend (Malmö/Stockholm/Gothenburg) and a short biography (max 500 words) to audition@ildance.se.

24 September 2022 at 23.59 CET - you are encouraged to apply before the final date.
**Please make sure that the videos are clear and the image quality is decent. We want to get to know you and your approach to dance. We are not going to base decisions on your video editing skills. You can keep it simple and clear.
After receiving your application we will be in touch no later than 27 September 2022 but possibly before.
We at ilDance truly respect artists’ time and resources. Therefore, we will treat your application with care and be as specific as we can with inviting artists who would be travelling from outside of Scandinavia for the audition. We will only invite people who we believe are particularly suitable candidates for the ilYoung 2023 project.
This is because we respect you and do not want to waste your time and your funds as well as respect the planet we live on.

About ilDance, ilYoung and COMPASS
ilDance is an international and independent contemporary dance organisation which initiates and operates several pioneer and international projects. The company was founded in 2012 by its current Artistic Directors, Israel Aloni and Lee Brummer and it is based in Gothenburg, Sweden.
ilYoung was established by Brummer and Aloni in 2012 with the ambition to structure a platform which would offer professional experience to young dancers who are in the early stages of their careers. 2023 will be the 10th year of the ilYoung project. COMPASS is a home for young and emerging contemporary dance artists across Sweden. The project, which has support from Postkodstiftelsen, will collaborate with regions, municipalities and local organisations to create an infrastructure for emerging contemporary dance artists.
