My Body My Nation on Tour

For the rest of May, Israel Aloni shifts from working on Schism to their current solo performance, My Body My Nation, taking the work to Portugal, Bulgaria and Croatia.

Aloni is currently in an artistic residency at CRL - Central Elétrica in Porto and will have a studio presentation there on Wednesday 18 May.

Sofia’s Topocentrala is next on the tour, for a performance on 21 May and a workshop the following day.

Rounding off May’s performances is a visit to the 20th edition of the Queer Zagreb festival, leading a workshop on 26 May and performing on 27 May.

5 Minutes With

Aloni spoke to Toplocentrala for their '5 Minutes With' podcast series, ahead of taking My Body My Nation to Sofia on 21/22 May.

Israel shares their inner experience of a physical body and a nation, how it corresponds to traumas and how we communicate it through art.

About My Body My Nation

My Body My Nation looks at the correspondence between the self and the body. It is a one-person, multidisciplinary performative act, where the ownership over the physical body will be examined from social, political and ethical standpoints.

In the era of campaigns such as #MeToo and Black Lives Matter, Aloni would like to interrogate the archaeological and anthropological identities of our physical body.

By exposing and sharing autobiographical elements from Aloni’s life and drawing on current political and social phenomena, My Body My Nation attempts to decolonise the body from the cultures and manners that have been imposed on it.
