iCoDaCo: Sweden-based WRECK collective residency in Borås, Sweden

Last month, the Sweden-based WRECK collective spent their residency in Borås, Sweden. They explored themes of sound/music and costume/props/set, both collectively and individually. When reflecting upon their first week together, the collective wrote the following words:

‘’Stories and Stones

After months apart we collided together again, the newness of another place igniting some chaos. These are the lives, the life lines: one about to move home, one has a magical pym baby, one is building a studio in Uganda, one is teaching a lot, one is organising their latest project, one has lost a job. Then, we sit to settle some things, a way to tie stuff down and know what to do. How to move forward? Maybe we keep to what we have and try not to come up with any more ideas? This will be hard but it will help us be focused. Boom. And in a sudden moment the plan was made and laid. These are predictions of the future where we activate experiences all over Småland. One of us will travel to Uganda.  And one by one we work in Stockholm. And at least one time we will be together. And some of the works are already finished and some of the ideas are still in development. We start counting what is in our pocket, well it’s more accurate to count what is in our basket. I’m an oracle, she says. A choreographer that sees into the future. Let’s work out something preliminary, a loose narrative for the story, then we lay down the logistics, once we know what we need we can make the budget. That will be complex. There’s so much stuff but never mind. This has become a collection of stones and stories. No. This has always been a collection of stories and stones. We’ve talked about this before. The importance of stories and telling them. How some things are completely clear and others not clear at all. It’s how it is.’’

With three residencies left until the conclusion of the research process, the following residency period will take place in collaboration with Danscentrum Väst in Gothenburg, Sweden. Both WRECK Collective members Destiny Af Kleen and Moa Sahlin will be imparting daily training classes from Monday till Friday from 10:15-11:45h.

In class, Destiny will share methods and impulses from her artistic practice as a choreographer, dancer, and artistic director of DansPlats Skog. Her work explores the relationship between the senses, movement, rhythm, and social structures — with a focus on collective processes, bodily memory, and the creation of alternative spaces.

As well, together with Moa participants will re-visit TanDem practice and move in connecting gaze to gaze, hands to hands and personal to public. If really lucky, there will be a DJ from DK. If not DiT not DIY.

Stay tuned to find out what themes they will be exploring!
