BOYS JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN
Performance / Project: Boys Just Want To Have Fun
Produced by: ilDance
Project manager: main contact at ilDance Johanna Byström (johannabystrom@ildance.se)
Amount of performers: 6
Amount of traveling people: 8
SPACE REQUIREMENTS
Floor layout:
White cube - Gallery/museum space. Preferable 2 rooms next/near to each other, but possible with only one. All rooms should be vacated from any content and/or objects. Performance space minimum size: each room at least 4 X 6 meters
Audience arrangements:
Boys Just Want To Have Fun is a durational piece and the audience is invited to walk freely in and out throughout the 6-8 hour performance. We recommend having 4-5 chairs available in the space for audience members who are unable to stand or sit on the floor. Amount of audience: depends on the space capacity. To be discussed with the hosting venue.
FLOOR REQUIREMENTS
No special floor requirements.
Boys Just Want To Have Fun can be performed on a wooden/concrete/tile/stone floor. We just request to inform ilDance what kind of floor is in the space.
TECH EQUIPMENT AND PROPS
Sound
1 Handheld mic (preferably wireless). Example: Sennheiser SKM 835-XSW-B-Band
1 Mic stand: Mic stand for reference
Sounds desk (mixer), Min 4 channels - to connect speakers, microphone and aux in for laptop. For example: Behringer Xenyx 802S
Speakers (can be either on the floor or hanging from the ceiling if already there). 1-2 speaker in each room - depending on the size, the sound quality and the layout of the space
Projectors
2 projectors
SONY VPL-CWZ10 / SONY VPL-PHZ50 or similar
Important projector features: focusing, 5000 lm (or more), frame adjustment
Projectors position: Hanging from the ceiling if possible.
NOTE: when the projectors can not be hanging from the ceiling, we also require 2 stands/small tables to place the projectors on.
Light
Regular gallery/museum light. We use the existing light in the venue. It might be necessary to focus/move the lights a little but there will be no need for additional light equipment.
Cables
XLR Cables (number and length depending on the specificity of the performance space)
IEC power cables for speakers and mixing desk (number and length depending on the specificity of the performance space)
1x: aux cable to connect laptop to mixing desk
Assortment of power extension cables to reach speakers, sound desk and projector/s from power outlets at the venue. There must be enough to ensure cables are tidy and safely laid out when setup is complete.
HDMI cables (number and length depending on the specificity of the performance space)
Window treatment
The performance includes nudity, stark images and very intimate and vulnerable moments. Therefore, we prefer to blur the sight from the outside into the space. If the performance space is visible to the public street through the windows and/or vitrine we ask to frost/blur them.
For the blurring purposes, we suggest one of the following three methods:
A spray made specifically for this purpose.
For example Rust-oleum window sprayDIY with simple ingredients
Combine 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of cold water
Add ¾ cup boiling water
Mix to form a paste
Apply directly to window surface with a paint brush
3. A frost film For reference
Important: We recommend method 1 & 2, they are the least expensive, easily removable and take the least time to apply.
Props
Large white paper (for writing)
Options: Flip chart paper / large paper roll (will be cut to large pieces)
For reference, please see photo #1
Paper tape (Sterilization indicator tape)
Tech confirmation
ilDance requires a confirmation of the availability of all the required tech equipment minimum 12 weeks prior to the first performance in the respected venues/location.
Get in / Get out
Boys Just Want To Have Fun contains site responsive elements and requires at least 5 days of mounting and rehearsing in the space, prior to the first public performance. On a performance day, we require 3 hours in the space before the performance start time. After the last performance, get-out time might take up to 2 hours.
Note: The performers come in contact with the white walls with different body parts which might result in the walls having some marks left on them. Sandpapering or repainting might be required after the shows/s.
TECH TEAM AT VENUE/LOCATION
We require 1 local technician or gallery/museum staff with the necessary technical knowledge about the sound, lighting and multimedia equipment (if local existing equipment is used) as well as general knowledge of the venue/location.
The amount of time the local technician/staff would be required depends on the equipment, space arrangements and necessity of each performance location. This can be agreed upon in advance in dialogue with ilDance.
COMMUNICATION WITH VENUE/LOCATION/HOST
ilDance requests a main contact person at the venue/location to mediate all technical and venue related matters whose contact details should be shared with ilDance’s project manager and/or tech coordinator minimum 12 weeks prior to the first performance in the respected venues/location.

Access to clean running water (a sink) and to drinking water (tap / cooler / filter / bottled)
If dressing rooms / areas are not available as mentioned above, a greenroom or relaxing area sufficiently sized to host the number of people traveling from the company should be provided by the venue/location during both rehearsal and performance days.

Cleaning: The performance space and all other spaces to which the company has access are requested to be cleaned in a frequency which allows the company to work in a clean space for all rehearsals and/or performances.
Introduction to the venue: Upon arrival at the venue/location for the first time, ilDance would like the host to provide an introduction to the venue/location for the company’s tech coordinator and project manager which covers all the necessary tech and venue/location information (i.e. use of equipment, safety procedures, access and alarm routines, introduction to the space and who else is working there, if relevant).
