Movement session with Israel Aloni for dancers and non-dancers
In this movement session, Israel Aloni will introduce ideas and themes from their research and movement practice, The I.Aloni Experience, which they have been developing through choreographic and research processes over the past two decades. The I.Aloni Experience approaches the body as an experience of being in the world and proposes that it is precisely through the collective that a body can appear.
The session will include a collection of concepts introduced through guided improvisation and movement exploration. These proposals will invite participants to experiment with different perspectives and perceptions of the body with which they are dancing and the world (context) in which it occurs. Participants can choose the degree of intensity with which they approach the movement and the proposed tasks, to suit their desire and capacity.
This session is suitable for anyone (age 16 and up) interested in embodied exploration. No previous dance experience is specifically required.
Work in progress sharing of [inter/face] by Nea Landin
[inter/face] is a work in progress exploring the browser as a choreographic space. Nea is interested in how everyday interactions with computers have become extensions of our bodies and minds, and how attention, thought, and online behaviour can be understood as forms of movement. Through live image processing, pop ups, and navigable interface elements, she is experimenting with ways the browser can become a space for embodied experience.
This sharing will be an opportunity to see how different participants navigate the work and what kind of experiences, associations, and questions emerge. The piece is in an early stage so these interactions and discussions will be valuable to inform the evolution of the project going forward.
Work in progress sharing by Scilla Rajalin
Taste which forms our ways of living ways of living which form our taste
Fan is a stoic portrait of a lifespan, or a small part of it at least. Finding pleasure in the big emotions, in the simplicity of form, in the rigorous and in the bare.
A work in search of passion; about the multi-layered experiences of having a life. Longing to experience the most explosive of emotions, as well as the most dull; the soloist tracks her steps carefully, searching for connections through shared experience - without knowing with whom she shares them.
“This work could very well be about me, hopefully it is also about you, about Molly, about anyone - but mostly it is about the experience; not contained or restricted to any single person, body or life. A practice in sensing that which can not be put into words. In soft collaboration with impressions & suggestions from artists all around, this work hopes to inject a sense of unity and recognition, and if nothing else; the simple joys of movement.” Scilla Rajalin
This work has been created by choreographer Scilla Rajalin. The piece is performed by dancer Molly.
Artist talk:
Nea Landin, Scilla Rajalin and Israel Aloni, together with the audience, will engage in a conversation about the specific practices shared in this event, as well as contemporary performance and dance practices, more broadly.
This artist talk will invite us to reflect on the relations between medium and agency. Nea Landin, in her work-in-progress sharing, asks questions about the ways in which the internet browser can be a field for choreography, an extension of the physical body. Scilla Rajalin, in their work-in-progress sharing presents a query about the scope of emotional capacity and its movement from one body to another. Together with Israel Aloni, who will support the conversation, the artists will discuss how medium and agency inform one another in a performance context. What happens to human agency when it is interacting with the digital? In what way the scope of our agency depends on our emotional capacity? How are different agencies mediated in the creative process of performance making?
