Israel Aloni

Artistic director & co-founder of ilDance, Israel Aloni is an independent choreographer, pedagog, performer, writer and provocateur. Aloni has been developing their movement research practice - The I.Aloni Experience, which also forms the foundation of their teaching practice.

There are two continuous engines in this practice: the immensely charged field between the performer and the witness-spectator; and the agency of the dance-performer in the process of making-performing. Aloni resonates with the account of Gilles Deleuze which suggests that an idea informs the medium. When an idea appears, it already informs in what medium it wants to be explored and expressed.

They also investigate concepts across disciplines, namely philosophy and psychology, often reflecting on themes of ontology, gender and nonconformity.
